Sandia reserves the right to extend the posting date at any time.What Your Job Will Be LikeOrganization 02480, Design Engineering, is currently seeking a highly motivated Computer Aided Design (CAD) Technologist with a passion for product design and development.On any given day, one may be called upon to:* Build, modify, and evaluate complex component and system definition by implementing and integrating design solutions* Lead the design of three-dimensional models and detailed drawings of sophisticated objects and systems* Independently determine or gather product requirements based on client needs* Utilize three-dimensional computer-aided design (CAD) software to perform mass property calculations and dimensional tolerance and interference analyses* Gather, analyze, and present product performance and results to improve designsCandidates applying on this requisition may be interviewed and/or hired into one of several organizations at Sandia National Laboratories.Qualifications We Require* An Associate's degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology or Egineering Technology plus 5 years relevant experience; or equivalent experience and/or achievements that demonstrate the knowledge, skills and ability to perform the duties of the job* Experience using CAD software for complex 3D solid modeling and mechanical drawing generation* The ability to acquire and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearanceQualifications We Desire* Experience using PTC-Creo software for mechanical design* A demonstrated ability in applying mechanical design principles to formulate design concepts and meet product requirements* The ability to independently apply principles of tolerance analysis and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) based on experience, training, or certification such as ASME GDTP technologist level* Experience using a product data management system to manage CAD files* Application of manufacturing methods for mechanical hardware* Application of Design for Manufacturing and Assembly principles* Demonstrated successful teamwork, superb communication skills (oral and written), and consistent demonstration of good behaviors* A solid understanding of Microsoft Office Products* The knowledge and understanding of the NW engineering systems and the NNSA product realization process* A demonstrated ability to work independently and in a perse team environment* An active DOE Q-level security clearance; or other equivalent active security clearance such as DOD Top SecretAbout Our TeamSandia's "Design Engineering Group" consists of multiple mechanical design departments that provide design engineering services using Computer Aided Design (CAD) software such as PTC Creo and other 3D modeling tools. We partner with engineering teams across the lab to produce innovative design solutions based on high-quality CAD models and drawings. We ensure fit, form, and function using Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), while ensuring manufacturability and maintainability of designs. We determine the physical characteristics of the product including: geometric form, interface features, manufacturing specifications, processes, and assembly instructions. We communicate design options and recommended approaches to product development teams, customers, and manufacturing partners. We apply technical judgment based upon engineering principles in the design and development of innovative products in support of our Nation's security programs.
