Experienced Mechanical Systems Design Engineer, Puget Sound Area. Boeing Defense, Space and Security is seeking a Mechanical System Design Engineer Level 3 in the Puget Sound area in support of Space and Launch and Phantom Works programs. We create the next generation products and services for the Boeing Defense, Space & Security business. We work with proprietary customers in the development of the next-generation technologies in space. We focus on rapid prototyping to demonstrate a host of mission-focused technologies for a variety of customers. Our group works all facets of engineering from technology investment, concept development, proposal writing, requirements and design, build, integration, test, and demonstration of products in their relevant environments.

The position will support the design, development, and integration of innovative mechanical, fluid, thermal, and solar systems for a space applications. The position provides an opportunity work with an experienced, interdisciplinary team to develop unique systems to meet challenging requirements on a dynamic development program.

Primary Responsibilities:
Works under supervision to develop and document complex systems

Flexibility to adapt and improve new fabrication technologies

Ability to analyze and incrementally improve fabrication processes

Requires an openness to new challenges and experiences, with a can-do attitude to solve unique design challenges

Ability to use rapid prototyping methods and tools to evaluate new concepts, like Arduino, 3D printing, CNC, robotics, and software development

Ability to provide hands-on support in the completion of hardware projects

Must possess good organizational, interpersonal, and problem solving skills

Must have demonstrated a strong work ethic and sense of urgency for completing assigned work with a history of meeting commitments

Ability to adjust priorities to multiple demands and unanticipated events

This position requires an active Top Secret U.S. Security Clearance pre-start. (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active.)

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

Must have a Bachelor's, Master's, or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry.

Five (5) or more years of related work experience with a BS degree or three (3) or more years with an MS degree.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
Master’s degree preferred

Education and/or experience that spans multiple engineering design disciplines, including electrical and materials

Hands-on experience with rapid prototyping methods

Experience with software development

Typical Education/Experience:
Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. Master). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

This position offers relocation based on candidate eligibility. Basic relocation is available for internal candidates.
