Commscope is hiring an FPGA Engineering Manager to work remotely from anywhere in the US. The preferred locations for this position are Lisle IL, Richardson TX, Shakopee MN and Forest VA but will consider candidates from other US locations to work virtually

The role will be a part of our DAS and Small cell product group and will be leading a team of five or more FPGA developers who design, implement, and integrate RTL for LTE and 5GNR radio access points. The manager will also be capable of designing, reviewing, and technically contributing to engineering projects as an FPGA developer. The FPGA Manager will collaborate with peers across many engineering fields on the design of unique programmable logic based wireless solutions. They will review requirements, designs and documentation, assess effort estimations, and staff loading, as well as conduct regular reviews, 1-on-1 meetings with their reports, and mentor their staff. Assign and supervise the progress of individual contributors, raising issues to more senior management and removing roadblocks whenever possible. More specifically this will include reviewing, training, growing, retaining, and assessing the performance of engineering staff. Review requirements, assess technical feasibility, and produce effort estimations for new and sustaining projects. Write requirement, architecture, and design specifications to be implemented by engineers at varying technical levels. Technically contribute to the codified base of FPGA designs for Small Cell and Distributed Antenna Systems projects. Define and develop digital functions for 5G wireless radio units using a proven background in telecommunication/DSP areas. Implement FPGA designs for wireless communication systems design, mainly 4G/5G systems, using RTL (VHDL/Verilog) and high-level tools (DSP Builder, System Generator).

  • Bachelor’s in electrical or Computer Engineering and Ten years of experience in the design and implementation of high-speed real-time FPGA RTL.
  • 4+ years acting in a lead or supervisory position with proven track record of leading teams to successful project delivery. Ability to drive improvements to team performance through coaching and process improvements.
  • Clear communicator with proficiency in project planning and tracking tools such as Microsoft Project.
  • Experienced in FPGA design /implementation for high-speed real-time data processing applications in Intel and Xilinx products and development environments.
  • Experience leading, developing and integrating designs in a multi-discipline collaborative engineering environment.
  • Experience in supporting product development through the entire product lifecycle.
  • FPGA engineering experience in wireless communication industry.
  • Proficiency in AXI and Avalon bus architectures with DMA.
  • Multi-gigabit design (10Gb/s Ethernet, 25Gb/s Ethernet, JESD204, 10GBASE-R/KR, or similar).
  • Clock domain partitioning, timing constraints rules, static timing closure. ChipScope or SignalTap debugger or equivalent methods.
  • Background in Signal Processing and DSP implementation (FFT, iFFT, Filter Design, DUC/DDC, etc.).
  • Implementation knowledge in the following signal processing areas is highly desirable - Digital NCO, Quadrature Modulator and Demodulator, channel filtering, AGC and PLL and loop filters.
  • Strong FPGA logic and DSP element design background with ability to do RTL design and verification using Verilog and VHDL.
  • Familiar with multi-gigabit packet communication protocols (Ethernet) and corresponding hardware cores in FPGA.
  • Previous work with 5G, LTE, ORAN, WiMax, WiFi baseband or digital signal processing and digital up converter/down converter blocks.
