Boeing is seeking a Mid-Level Certification Engineer (Level 3) for the Boeing Commercial Airplanes (BCA) Regulatory Administration team in the Product & Services Safety (P&SS) Organization in Long Beach, California.

This position would support BCA Fleet Support (post-production) for in-production models and Out-of-production Boeing Model Certification Programs. We are seeking individuals with experience in Part 25 certification and engineering programs to manage ODA projects for major changes to type design. Responsibilities will include addressing and reconciling Certification Plans, Compliance Deliverables, Airworthiness Directives, and Alternative Methods of Compliance (AMOCs).

This position works closely and interfaces with ODA (Organization Designation Authorization) Unit members such as Project Administrators and Engineering Unit Members.

Position Responsibilities:
Transmits certification data to regulators or approves certification data on behalf of the regulator when authorized.

Oversees the development of multiple certification plans, including providing technical ownership as appropriate, and negotiates changes required in order to secure approval of certification plan by regulatory agencies.

Reviews certification data, certification schedule, and assists in resolving certification issues.

Processes minor change approvals and manages ODA projects for major changes to type design. Approves certification plans on behalf of the regulator when authorized.

Maintains open communication paths with the ODA Unit, FAA, and the applicant (The Boeing Company).

Ensure AD/AMOC and ICA (Instructions for Continued Airworthiness) submittal complies with the FAA Order requirements.

Participates in and supports oversight activities including self-audits, regulatory compliance root-cause corrective actions (BPSM), and FAA formal compliance investigations and audits.

Provide counsel on pertinent regulatory requirements, and makes recommendations on retrofit (post-production) products such as Service Bulletins requirements to ensure first-time quality approvals by the regulator(s).

Evaluates customer and /operational regulatory requirements, and provides regulatory support thru the Customer Support organization.

Supports and documents certification related processes, tools and procedures to continuously improve the performance of certification tasks.

Supports and coordinate certification process improvements and resolution of issues between Boeing and the Federal Aviation Administration Organizational Management Team (FAA OMT).

This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “U.S. Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. “U.S. Person” includes U.S. Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry

Experience in the aerospace industry

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
Certification experience

Experience working with the FAA

Typical Education/Experience:
Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD, Master+3 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
