The team's expertise spans many domains including statistics, machine learning, economics, and cryptography. We develop methodologies, design and prototype solutions, and partner with our engineering colleagues to launch these solutions such that millions of advertisers can benefit.We seek a Tech Lead Manager to support a team of Research Scientists in identifying new opportunities and helping build scientifically rigorous systems focused on enhancing technological guarantees for consumer privacy, while simultaneously expanding the efficiency of Facebook's market-leading advertising optimization systems. Challenges include incorporating approaches such as differential privacy and multi-party computation within our ads delivery systems, designing machine learning systems on encrypted data and/or in decentralized or federated environments, and advancing the efficient frontier of privacy and utility in our ads systems.Research Science TLM - Statistics & Privacy (Privacy-Preserving ML) Responsibilities* Design and prototype new algorithms, optimization methods, and system architectures and get hands-on in implementation and development work of the projectsLead highly skilled research scientists, providing mentorship and career guidance to members of the teamFoster innovation and prioritize across specific opportunities to build new and improve existing privacy-preserving advertising and commerce solutionsShepherd the team's research and development projects, ensuring high-quality communication across perse audiences, and taking responsibility for the team's long-term product impactBuild cross-functional relationships with AI, Engineering, Product and Analytics teams to shape long-term roadmaps with a balance of scientific rigor and strategic considerationsManage the development of presentations, patent applications, white papers and publications of research results in top-tier journals and at leading conferencesMinimum Qualifications* PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Statistics, or other quantitative fields, or MS/MA degree with 6+ years of relevant experience in research science4+ years of industry experience in an applied research and development organization within relevant fields2+ years of leadership experience for scientific teamsUnderstanding of modern machine learning techniques and their mathematical underpinningExpertise with at least one of the following privacy technologies: Secure multi-party computation techniques, Differential privacy, Federated Learning, optimization algorithms and protocols, Learning on encrypted data, Homomorphic encryption, Trusted execution environmentsProficiency designing and implementing analytical and/or algorithmic solutions, tailored to particular business needs and tested on large data setsProficiency in PythonExperience with communicating analysis and establishing confidence among audiences who do not share your disciplinary background or trainingProven track record of innovationPreferred Qualifications* 2+ years of tech lead management experience in a highly technical and/or applied research teamPublished as first-author(s) for top-tier conferences or journals in relevant fieldsLocationsAbout the Facebook companyFacebook's mission is to give people the power to build community and bring the world closer together.
