The Boeing Research and Technology Guidance, Navigation, Control & Autonomy team is seeking a Senior Guidance, Navigations, and Controls Engineer (Level 4) to join our team in Everett or Tukwila, Washington.
The selected candidate will work with and lead other engineers in order to address research and development challenges in the areas of guidance, navigation, flight controls, and autonomy. The candidate will perform research and development of technologies needed for areas such as advanced control system design and analysis, algorithm and software development process methods and tools, dynamic system modeling and simulation, uncertainty quantification, trajectory optimization, and technologies needed to enable increased automation and full autonomous vehicle operations. The work involves aspects from problem solving, design, coding / implementation, mathematical modeling and simulation, testing, and analysis. The candidate will carry out experiment design, testing, and results analysis as well as prepare reports and give presentations. The candidate is expected to have the ability to analyze and develop solutions to complex GNC problems. The work involves aspects of problem solving, coding / implementation, model based engineering, simulation, algorithm development, testing, analysis, and reporting. The candidate must also have good team collaboration skills and good communication skills.
Performs and documents design of Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GNC) systems and guides experienced engineers in performance of the designs
Develops GNC and mathematical tools and techniques and aids in developing Technology roadmaps
Performs or directs test data analysis and documentation
Presents findings of compliance to regulatory agencies, negotiates certification basis in alignment project goals, simulation and design review per FAA, MIL-SPEC and NASA guidance
Gathers, defines and documents system level requirements and investigates actions necessary for requirements definition and flow-down improvement
Trains and coaches others
Works under minimal direction
This position allows telecommuting. The selected candidate will be required to perform some work onsite at one of the listed location options.
This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Secret clearance Post-Start is required.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry
10+ years of guidance, navigation and control engineering
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
Masters degree or higher in aerospace, mechanical, or electrical engineering
Experience with dynamic system modeling and simulation
Experience with classical and modern control law analysis
Experience with the design, implementation and verification testing
Experience with estimation, optimization, and parameter / system identification methods and tools
Experience with advanced mathematics
Experience with Monte Carlo analysis
Experience with MATLAB
Experience with Simulink
Experience with system architectures
Experience with autonomous systems
Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+4 years' related work experience, Master+7 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
