SUMMARY - Specialist, Systems Engineering


This position is responsible for the governance, planning, and technical execution of the entire system development lifecycle of power conversion and protection products. Product maturity ranges from refreshes of fielded systems to new product introduction. Overall responsibilities include governance of system engineering efforts from requirement definition, architecting, design execution, and the support of integration and verification.


The position operates primarily as an individual contributor with occasional assignments to lead small teams. The position will govern systems engineering activities throughout the requirements definition and design phases. This position works under the guidance or Engineering Operations leadership supporting the entire engineering organization. This role also requires communication and coordination with Program Leadership (Program Managers and Business Leaders) demonstrating governance of the development process and coordinating the implementation of Gate Reviews. This position also includes maintenance and continuous improvement of processes and procedures. This includes, but is not limited, to procedure/work instruction development, template development, metrics, tool enhancements, training, and mentoring.


Typical day-to-day responsibilities would be maintaining development program Gate Review schedules, coordinating reviews with Engineering and Program leaders, governance of reviews and artifacts across all development programs, working across engineering to ensure processes and procedures represent the business execution, and implement tools and metrics to improve how the development programs comply with the process. To perform effectively, it is expected that this position be knowledgeable of system engineering processes across program execution (e.g. SRR, PDR, CDR, TRR, etc). This position requires a person that is highly detailed oriented, structured, well organized, and can effectively communicate complex topics to varied audiences.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.



  • Process development and governance of program reviews and artifacts

  • Development of tools and metrics that will improve the product development execution by programs and engineering

  • Coordinate formal Gate Reviews that follow design reviews such as SRR, PDR, and CDR

  • Continuous improvement of processes, tools, and metrics


QUALIFICATIONS

  • 4+ years’ experience in engineering and management of complex technical systems development and production

  • Broad based technical knowledge and experience in order to understand and evaluate systems engineering activities across the engineering functions.

  • A general understanding of the overall system engineering process, as outlined by INCOSE and basic understanding of the system “vee”.

  • A general understand of an entire product lifecycle and processes and procedures than ensure consistent execution through product development.

  • Experience with requirement management tools; experience with MBSE and Agile Development tools desired.

  • Experience with structured problem solving approaches/methodologies

  • Experience with LEAN / Six-Sigma principles is desired

  • Outstanding written communication skills

  • Strong verbal communication skills for internal and customer presentations

  • Ability to obtain a Secret Clearance.


EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE


Bachelor's degree in engineering from a four-year college or university and a minimum of 4 years of prior related experience. Associates Degree with a minimum of 8 years of prior related experience. Graduate degree or equivalent with a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience. Specific experience in electronic power conversion equipment design and deployment is preferred.
