    PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

    Provides direction, teaching, and support for the Medical Radiology Technology course objectives and contributes to the educational environment of the Lone Star College and the community. Responsibilities include teaching and advising students. Primary functions are to plan, maintain, access, and teach courses within the curriculum in a manner that facilitates student success and student learning.

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

    1. Teaches courses in the Medical Radiology Program at a variety of times and locations in response to institutional needs, making continuous efforts to improve the quality of instruction by reviewing and utilizing innovative methodologies, techniques, and delivery methods
    2. Develops and uses a syllabus for each course or laboratory within college and departmental guidelines
    3. Evaluates students to measure their progress toward achievement of stated course objectives and informs them in a timely manner of their progress in the course. Identifies and assesses student who are in need of additional instruction to successfully complete the course objectives
    4. Responsible for recruiting and advising students in their area
    5. Responsible for managing their classrooms and labs, including assuring lab facilities meet state requirements
    6. Responsible for assisting with student job placement
    7. Works directly with certification agencies to ensure alignment and high level of program and student success
    8. Prepares and maintains course outlines and objectives
    9. Instructs and evaluates student progress
    10. Participates in the accreditation and assessment process
    11. Supports the Program Director to assure effective program operations
    12. Participates in periodic review and revision of course materials
    13. Maintains current knowledge of professional discipline
    14. Maintains appropriate expertise and competence through continuing professional development
    15. Attends meetings on and off campus as schedule
    16. Responsible for other reasonable related duties as assigned

  • PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

    The work requires some physical exertion, such as long periods of standing; walking over rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces; recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, or similar activities; or recurring lifting of moderately heavy items, such as typewriters and record boxes. The work may require specific, but common, physical characteristics and abilities, such as above average agility and dexterity.

    WORK SCHEDULE AND CONDITIONS:

  • Equipment used includes, PC workstation running on a LAN in a Microsoft Windows environment, calculator, phone and other general office equipment, and any specialized equipment standard within the discipline/industry. (All five energized imaging equipment in the MRT lab)
  • Interface with internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the functions of the position
  • Work is performed in a climate-controlled classroom and/or lab environment with minimal exposure to radiation.
  • Hours will vary depending on clinical assignment, class time and scheduled lab assignments; Instructors are required to meet with classes and labs at all scheduled times and be available to students outside of class instruction at the clinical facilities and during scheduled posted office hours.
  • REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    Bachelor's degree in radiologic technology or related field and 2 years nonteaching work experience in the field. Certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists and registration in the pertinent discipline.
